Brian Carroll has been taking photographs all of his adult life but began committing to producing work and exhibiting around the early 2000’s Carroll’s prolific work in black and white, reveals an equally bold compositional style, often switching the point of focus from foreground to background and playing with the dynamics of light, shade and reflection. Each photograph is worked on and treated as a unique experience, a time consuming process. Like Carroll’s colour photographs, which often concentrate on bold colours, these images mine intrigue and emotion from everyday settings. “A photographers role is to capture fleeting moments that will never be repeated, the challenge is that these moments occur all around us all the time” Carroll says.
Timeless moments and raw textures captured in black and white. This photography series delves into diverse atmospheres – the stark interplay of light and shadow, the gritty details of urban environments, the mood of rainy streets, and candid glimpses of life, all expressed through monochrome.
Candid moments and textures of urban life captured in full colour. This street photography series delves into the city's atmosphere – the energy of passers-by, the solitude of night travel, bold splashes of colour against concrete, and fleeting glimpses of everyday existence.
Abstract forms and textures born from light and motion. This photography series delves into visual experimentation – capturing the energetic blur of movement, the atmospheric glow of distorted city lights, bold washes of colour, and fleeting impressions that challenge perception.
